Scarborough is a perfect 7-0 against Marshwood since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Red Storm will be playing at home against the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Scarborough will be strutting in after a victory while Marshwood will be coming in after a loss.
Scarborough not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 20, 2024 (when they won 16-1). They put the hurt on Noble with a sharp 13-3 win. The Red Storm's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Asa Howe made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That hit was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Scarborough got a massive performance out of Giuiliana Giftos, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Giftos a new career-high. Cassie Niles was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Scarborough was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Marshwood's offense. They lost 14-0 to Cheverus on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Hawks in their meetings with the Stags: they've now lost three in a row.
Scarborough's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Marshwood, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-3.
Scarborough skirted past Marshwood 6-5 when the teams last played back in June of 2024. Do the Red Storm have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
