Baseball Recap: Maeser Prep Academy Starts Season with Win at Home

Maeser Prep Academy gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. Everything went their way against the Freedom Prep Academy Eagles as they made off with a 17-1 win. The Lions have beaten the Eagles the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.

Jonny Mitchell and Logan Sollami made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Mitchell struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sollami tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Mitchell went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Sollami got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Sollami a new career-high.

In other batting news, Corbin Turner and Easton Pyne did most of the damage at the plate: Turner went 1-for-3 with three runs and one triple, while Pyne got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three runs gave Turner a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tom Jackson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Maeser Prep Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .371 or higher in seven consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Maeser Prep Academy beat Freedom Prep Academy by a score of 22-4 on Friday.
