Baseball Game Preview: Estancia Eagles vs. Westminster Lions

The Estancia Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Westminster Lions at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Westminster took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Estancia, who comes in off a win.

Estancia is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Orange 15-3 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Nico Viramontes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Estancia let Sean Sweeney and Miles Dodge run wild. Sweeney went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Dodge went 2-for-5 with two runs and one double. That's the most hits Sweeney has posted since back in March. Vaughn McCrea also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Estancia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Westminster suffered their biggest defeat since April 25, 2024 on Monday. They lost 11-2 to Savanna. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Westminster's loss dropped their record down to 6-9-1. As for Estancia, their record is now 12-9.

Estancia couldn't quite finish off Westminster in their previous matchup back in March of 2018 and fell 6-4. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
