Football Recap: Austin's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Austin unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 21-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huntsville Panthers. The Black Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Austin lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Qadir Lyle, who threw for 323 yards and two TDs while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt. Austin's leading receiver Alvin Jones was Lyle's top target yet again, picking up 149 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Bryson Grissom was his usual excellent self, picking up 93 receiving yards and one score for Huntsville.

Austin's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-2. As for Huntsville, their record now sits at an identical 4-2.

Austin didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 31-7 win against Bob Jones on the 10th. As for Huntsville, they have also already played their next game, a 34-0 victory against Albertville on the 10th.
