The Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos will square off against the Del Campo Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Twelve Bridges has three straight wins, Del Campo has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Twelve Bridges gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Placer, sneaking past 6-5.
Lucia Cantarhina and Lexi Bright did most of the damage at the plate: Cantarhina went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Bright went 1-for-5 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most RBI Cantarhina has posted since back in February.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Twelve Bridges kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Del Campo couldn't beat Yuba City on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Cougars came up short against the Honkers, falling 13-6. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Honkers 4-0 in the first period.
Del Campo saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katlin Tiss, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Sophie Wells was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Twelve Bridges pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Del Campo, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-16.
Del Campo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Twelve Bridges has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Del Campo, though, as they've been averaging 10.5 hits. Given Twelve Bridges' sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
Twelve Bridges took their win against Del Campo in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 14-5 score. Will the Raging Rhinos repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
