Basketball Recap: Five Straight Road Wins for Selma

Selma posted their closest victory since January 25th on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 53-50 win over the Orange Beach Makos. Given the Saints' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Makos are ranked 186th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Selma's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from DeShawn Flannigan, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 boards. Flannigan continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Cameron McMillian was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Selma's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for Orange Beach, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.

Selma will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Demopolis at 7:00 p.m. on December 30th. As for Orange Beach, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mortimer Jordan at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
