Basketball Recap: Manning Falls Despite Big Games from Tamia Watson and Ameerah Conyers

Manning made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Myrtle Beach, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Monarchs fell just short of the Seahawks by a score of 48-46 on Saturday. While the Monarchs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Seahawks 15-8 in the first quarter.

Ameerah Conyers and Tamia Watson certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Conyers dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds, while Watson posted 16 points along with eight boards and four steals. Conyers is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Shamiyah Conyers was another key player, putting up two points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Manning and nudges their season record down to 1-4. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 points. As for Myrtle Beach, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Manning will head out to square off against Crestwood at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Myrtle Beach, they will venture away from home to take on Loris at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Seahawks will be up against the Lions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.6 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
