Basketball Game Preview: Madison County Mountaineers vs. East Rockingham Eagles

The Madison County Mountaineers and the East Rockingham Eagles will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Madison County came up into this matchup off a tough 25-point defeat two weeks ago. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Central Woodstock by a score of 43-40 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 287th, while the Falcons are ranked 43rd).

East Rockingham has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to Broadway on the road by a 55-37 margin on Tuesday. The game marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

East Rockingham's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Madison County, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Madison County came up short against East Rockingham in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 40-29. Can Madison County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
