Softball Recap: Washington Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Washington dropped their record down to 14-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Pam Pack have suffered since February 27th.

Emma Orr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Carly Woolard was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

As for SouthWest Edgecombe, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games.

On SouthWest Edgecombe's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Mackenzie Rogers gave up only one earned run on five hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, Iyera Winstead was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Mackenzie Moore was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington will square off against East Wilkes at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against West Craven at 6:00 p.m. on the 29th.
