South Johnston had already won 16 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it 17 on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the East Wake Warriors. The five-run effort marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Ava Strickland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lannah Price, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Reese Penny was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

South Johnston pushed their record up to 17-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for East Wake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Johnston will take on Hunt at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for East Wake, they will face off against Fike at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
