Basketball Game Preview: Falcon Falcons vs. Canon City Tigers

The Falcon Falcons will take on the Canon City Tigers in a tournament on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Falcon challenged Pueblo East on Friday. Falcon took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pueblo East.

Defeat or not, Falcon got some senior leadership from Macey Fothergill and Cierra Barbary. Fothergill posted eight points in addition to 12 steals and seven assists, while Barbary put up 11 points along with six boards and five steals. Fothergill is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 27 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cobelyn Wiesner, who posted ten points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Falcon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Canon City also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Durango by a score of 36-23. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

This is the second loss in a row for Canon City and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Falcon, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Falcon ended up a good deal behind Canon City in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, losing 60-43. Can Falcon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
