Recap: Wardlaw Academy Patriots vs. Cambridge Academy Cougars
The matchup between the Wardlaw Academy Patriots and the Cambridge Academy Cougars on Tuesday hardly resembled the 39-8 effort from their previous meeting. Wardlaw Academy suffered a rough 67-47 defeat at the hands of the Cougars. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wardlaw Academy in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now lost three in a row.
Jillian Mapes was her usual excellent self, shooting 5-for-8 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds for Cambridge Academy. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mapes has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Indya Southerland, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Wardlaw Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Cambridge Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wardlaw Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face the at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Newberry Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Cambridge Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Our Lady of the Rosary is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
