Softball Game Preview: Freedom Patriots vs. Alexander Central Cougars

Freedom is 0-10 against Alexander Central since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Patriots will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Freedom has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Freedom turned things around against Watauga on Tuesday. They walked away with a 14-11 victory over the Pioneers.

The team relied heavily on Cassidy Taylor, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Englani Campbell, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

Taylor wasn't the only one making solid contact: Freedom kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Alexander Central came tearing into Tuesday's game with 17 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. Considering the Cougars have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexander Central's victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Freedom, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 6-14.
