Basketball Recap: Habib Khan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Tokay over Venture Academy + How To Watch

If Tokay was feeling good fresh off their 80-44 takedown of Humphreys Able Charter on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers lost to the Venture Academy Mustangs on the road by a 66-47 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 853rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 207th).

Tokay lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Habib Khan, who posted 16 points. That was a full 34% of Tokay's points, marking the sixth time in a row Khan has put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Adeeb Totakhil, who scored 12 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Venture Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayden Akuva, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 17 points. Akuva has also also been stellar as far as field goal percentage is concerned: he's posted one of at least 50% every time he's hit the court this season. Jabril Lewis-Muhammad was another key player, dropping a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds.

Tokay's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Venture Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Tokay wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 62-58 defeat against Kimball on the 6th. As for Venture Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-36 victory against Enochs on the 6th.
