Basketball Recap: Northern Comes Up Short

Northern played a tough game on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Allegany Campers, falling 63-19. The contest marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Northern saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Erin Murphy dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards. Murphy has become a key player for Northern: the team is 11-5 when she posts at least eight rebounds, but 1-4 otherwise.

Even though they lost, Northern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive games.

Northern has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season. As for Allegany, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coming up, Northern is taking a road trip to take on Patterson Mill at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Allegany, they will challenge Fort Hill on Monday. Allegany knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Fort Hill likes a good challenge.
