MaxPreps 2017 California Small Schools All-State Baseball Teams

Menlo School (Atherton) has a rich history of sending players to professional baseball despite being one of the smaller schools in the Central Coast Section.

The Knights have 20 players who have either been drafted or played some level of professional baseball, according to The Baseball Cube, including Griff McGarry, who is the MaxPreps California Small Schools Player of the Year.

Drafted in the 31st round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Texas Rangers, McGarry was one of the few small school players in California drafted this year. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound senior had an outstanding senior season that included leading Menlo to a Central Coast Section Division II championship while posting an 8-1 record with 95 strikeouts.

Jim Cleveland of Redwood Christian (San Lorenzo) is the California Small Schools Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to the North Coast Section Division 5 championship. Redwood Christian went 22-4 on the season and also twice defeated St. Joseph Notre Dame, the NCS Division 4 champion.



Small schools players are chosen from California schools that played in state enrollment divisions that generally had fewer than 1,000 students.
