Basketball Game Preview: West Cabarrus Wolverines vs. Lake Norman Charter Knights

The West Cabarrus Wolverines will be taking part in a tournament against the Lake Norman Charter Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. West Cabarrus knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Lake Norman Charter likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, West Cabarrus didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Cox Mill, but they still walked away with a 59-53 win.

Meanwhile, Lake Norman Charter came up short against Northwest Cabarrus on Friday and fell 61-53. The Knights have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

West Cabarrus will need focus on slowing down Caroline Mercuri, one of several Lake Norman Charter players who made an impact when they last played. She went 7 for 16 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. That's the most points Mercuri has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Courtney, who posted 12 points in addition to six steals and five assists.

Even though they lost, Lake Norman Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Lake Norman Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for West Cabarrus, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.

West Cabarrus didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Lake Norman Charter in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 56-51 win. Does West Cabarrus have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lake Norman Charter turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
