Basketball Recap: Brookeland Skates Past Hull-Daisetta with Ease

Hull-Daisetta typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Brookeland proved too difficult a challenge. They really took it to the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats for the full four quarters, racking up an 81-33 victory. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matches by 27 points or more this season.

Landon Smith was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 33 points and nine rebounds. He has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cade Morgan, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.

Brookeland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Brookeland pushed their record up to 22-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.8 points per game. As for Hull-Daisetta, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 17-8 record.

Brookeland will take on Spurger at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brookeland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 contests -- so hopefully Spurger likes a good challenge. As for Hull-Daisetta, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats challenge the High Island Cardinals at 7:04 p.m. on Tuesday. Hull-Daisetta is facing High Island at the right time seeing as High Island is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
