Softball Game Preview: Chugiak Mustangs vs. Dimond Lynx

Chugiak is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Monday. They will look to defend their home field against the Dimond Lynx at 7:45 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Chugiak is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home last Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over Juneau-Douglas.

The team relied heavily on Isabel Sjostrand, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn McCormick, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Chugiak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Juneau-Douglas only posted an OBP of .400.

Meanwhile, Dimond hadn't done well against Bettye Davis East Anchorage recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Lynx had just enough and edged out the Thunderbirds 9-8.

Dimond saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Belle Cavazos, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Chugiak skirted past Dimond 5-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lynx turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
