Softball Recap: Kouts Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

While Kouts put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Marquette Catholic. The Mustangs & Fillies put the hurt on the Blazers with a sharp 14-0 victory. Considering the Mustangs & Fillies have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Reese Carden was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Violet Glassburn was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Tinley Gant was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Kouts always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win was the third in a row for Kouts, bringing their record up to 7-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Marquette Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Kouts will head out to face off against Hanover Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs & Fillies' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Marquette Catholic, they will take on South Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blazers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Satellites have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
