Baseball Game Preview: Avon Lake Shoremen vs. Rocky River Pirates

The Avon Lake Shoremen will head out on the road to take on the Rocky River Pirates at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Avon Lake comes in on three and Rocky River on five.

On Friday, Avon Lake was able to grind out a solid victory over Fairview, taking the game 7-2.

Nate Haven was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Luke Swain also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Avon Lake hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Rocky River and Valley Forge had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Patriots on Friday. The Pirates not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 28th (when they won 13-1).

Avon Lake pushed their record up to 16-9 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rocky River, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.

Everything went Avon Lake's way against Rocky River in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Avon Lake made off with a 6-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Shoremen since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
