Baseball Recap: Sam Houston Takes a Loss

Sam Houston extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-16 in the process. They came up short against the Highlands Owls, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Owls this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 back in March.

As for Highlands, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-16-1. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last five games.

For Highlands' part, Jaime Zendejas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Zendejas a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Zaydin Rivera was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jose Parga was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Sam Houston has already played their next match (against Lanier), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Highlands, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-0 defeat against Edison on the 25th.
