Baseball Game Preview: Mercer Island Islanders vs. Hazen Highlanders

Mercer Island is 7-1 against Hazen since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Islanders will welcome the Highlanders at 6:00 p.m.

Mercer Island took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They skirted past Redmond 2-1. The Islanders haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Chase Koehler tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has become a key player for Mercer Island: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Mercer Island secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Tyler Williamson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, neither Hazen nor Bellevue could gain the upper hand on Wednesday so the two teams had to settle for a 10-10 tie.

Hazen's draw gives them a new season record of 5-8-1. As for Mercer Island, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.

Mercer Island beat Hazen 5-2 in their previous meeting back in March. Do the Islanders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
