Softball Game Preview: Wayne Christian Eagles vs. Liberty Christian Academy Heat

The Wayne Christian Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Liberty Christian Academy Heat at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wayne Christian has three straight victories, Liberty Christian Academy has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Thursday, everything went Wayne Christian's way against Arendell Parrott Academy as Wayne Christian made off with an 11-3 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by seven runs or more this season.

Riley Sutton made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two triples. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Aj Verme was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Addison Mitchell also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Wayne Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Liberty Christian Academy fell victim to Freedom Christian Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 11-0 to the Patriots. The game marked the first time this season in which the Heat were not able to get on the board.

Wayne Christian now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Liberty Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
