League recap: Berks Catholic extends winning streak with victory over Kutztown

Berks Inter-County 2 recap October 29, 2013

Berks Catholic added to the longest winning streak in Berks Inter-County 2 this week by beating Kutztown, 48-14. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Saints.

Berks Catholic led the league in scoring this week by notching 48 points on the Cougars. Pop Lacey ran for 81 yards during the win.

Fleetwood's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Zach Koenig threw for 255 and 1 touchdown and Cody Wolf had 106 yards receiving. On the ground Tyler Emge contributed 105 yards. Nate Webb helped Fleetwood's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 64 yards.

Emge was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 105 yards on 20 carries as the Tigers beat Blue Mountain. Teammate Shaq Cobb added to the ground attack by rushing for 80 yards.

Fleetwood's Koenig and Michael Allen led Berks Inter-County 2 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Koenig has thrown for 1,310 yards this season, while Allen has 32 catches for 530 yards. The Eagles' Will Bornstein leads the league in rushing yards with 1,008.

Emge of the James Martinez's team is just 88 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Emge has rushed for 912 yards on 170 carries so far this year.

As it stands, the Saints are in first, while Wyomissing is in third.

Schuylkill Valley made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,080 from 6,634. The improvement was largely due to a 34-14 victory over the Spartans last week.
