Preview: Burkburnett Bulldogs vs. Mineral Wells Rams
The Burkburnett Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Mineral Wells Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 70-14, which was the final score in Burkburnett's tilt against Springtown on Friday. Burkburnett was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.
Despite the loss, Burkburnett saw an underclassman step up: Robert Ingram rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown. Ingram's longest rush was for an incredible 82 yards. Elijah Maldonado made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Mineral Wells' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by Decatur on the road and fell 42-7. While losing is never fun, Mineral Wells can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 637th, while Decatur is ranked 207th).
Burkburnett's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.3 points per game. As for Mineral Wells, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Burkburnett took their win against Mineral Wells in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 by a conclusive 33-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for Burkburnett since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
