Football Recap: Aurora West College Prep Academy Comes Up Short at Home Against Denver West

Aurora West College Prep Academy unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost to the Denver West Cowboys at home by a 31-12 margin on Thursday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.

Although Aurora West College Prep Academy took the loss, they still got scores from Destiny Martinez and Maria Gutierrez Benitez.

Aurora West College Prep Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Gutierrez Benitez led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by herself. Martinez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Denver West to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shukri Hussein, who picked up 89 receiving yards and one touchdown. Hussein also deserves a shoutout for her performance on D, making two total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Denver West has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Aurora West College Prep Academy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 20-6 win against Bruce Randolph on the 29th. As for Denver West, they have also already played their next match, a 39-0 loss against Littleton on the 30th.
