Softball Recap: Mendota Trojans vs. Princeton Tigers
Mendota extended their losing streak to 12 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They lost 21-1 to the Princeton Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-5 last Tuesday.
Mendota saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Eddy, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
As for Princeton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Princeton's side, Reese Reviglio was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Reviglio has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Princeton got a big performance out of Sam Woolley, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Gracelynn Hansen was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Coming up, Mendota will square off against Newman Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Comets have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Princeton, they are taking a road trip to square off against Hall at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers are facing the Red Devils at the right time seeing as the Red Devils are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
