Football Recap: Medina Valley Runs Past Eagle Pass

Medina Valley won the last time they faced Eagle Pass and things went their way on Friday too. The Panthers walked away with a 47-38 victory over the Eagles. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

It was another big night for Xavier Gonzalez, who rushed for 156 yards and one TD while picking up 8.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Those 150 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Matthew Philpott was in the mix too, providing Medina Valley with one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Medina Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 262 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 238 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Despite the loss, Eagle Pass still got an impressive performance from Xavier Barrera, who rushed for 205 yards and one TD while picking up 12.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 204 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 16 passes. Another player making a difference was Luis Flores, who gained 107 total yards and three touchdowns.

Medina Valley now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Eagle Pass, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Coincidentally, Medina Valley and Eagle Pass will both be playing Laredo LBJ the next time they take the field. The Panthers will host the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Eagles will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on October 9.
