Basketball Recap: Hawken Smith Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Landrum

After losing to Landrum the last time they met, Chapman decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Chapman Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Landrum Cardinals 65-62.

Chapman got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hawken Smith out in front who posted 14 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grayden Humphries, who put up eight points and six rebounds.

Chapman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matchups.

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Andrew Coleman, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Aj Lindsey, who had 14 points and eight rebounds.

Chapman's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Landrum, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-4 record this season.

Chapman didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-65 loss against Walhalla on the 3rd. As for Landrum, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 65-47 victory against Liberty on the 3rd.
