Basketball Recap: Piedra Vista Comes Up Short

Piedra Vista was the 53-38 winner over Cleveland when they last played one another back in February of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Piedra Vista Panthers had to suffer through a 85-56 loss at the hands of the Cleveland Storm. The Panthers were down 70-42 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Piedra Vista still got an impressive performance from Tyra Holyan, who went 8 for 15 en route to 23 points and five boards. The matchup was Holyan's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaime Pierce, who posted 12 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Piedra Vista was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Leading Cleveland to victory were Savannah Madueno and Malia Mose. Madueno went 9 of 14 on her way to 25 points, while Mose went 7 for 17 en route to 22 points and three steals. Those 22 points gave Mose a new career-high. KC Winters was another key player, putting up six points and ten boards.

Piedra Vista now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Cleveland, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.

Piedra Vista will square off against Rio Rancho at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cleveland, they will challenge Volcano Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cleveland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.7 points per game this season.
