Softball Game Preview: Middle Creek Mustangs vs. Green Hope Falcons

Middle Creek has gone 9-1 against Green Hope recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mustangs will square off against the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. Middle Creek will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Last Tuesday, Middle Creek got the win against Panther Creek by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won four matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Hailey Hoeft spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kennedy Johnson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Chloe Smith also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Middle Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .389 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Falcons on Thursday. Green Hope lost 13-5 to Jordan. While Green Hope didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating Jordan 5-1 in the first period.

Middle Creek pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Green Hope, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-8.

Middle Creek was able to grind out a solid victory over Green Hope in their previous matchup back in March, winning 10-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
