Orange Beach posted their closest win since March 22nd on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the St. Michael Catholic Cardinals. This was a revenge game for the Makos: when they faced off against the Cardinals last Wednesday, they had to take a 9-7 defeat.

Matthew Hoover spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brayden Hood was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carter Steeley, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Orange Beach's win bumped their record up to 13-9. As for St. Michael Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-15 record this season.

Orange Beach will welcome Robertsdale at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for St. Michael Catholic, they will challenge Theodore at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
