Baseball Recap: Cissna Park Takes a Loss

Cissna Park had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it five. They lost 12-1 to the Armstrong Trojans. If the Timberwolves were looking for revenge after losing 13-1 to the Trojans when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Armstrong, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For Armstrong's part, Davyn Franzen and Bowen Hesterberg made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Franzen pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hesterberg pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Franzen has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Franzen went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Hesterberg got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most runs Franzen has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Traxton Roberts and Rhys Showalter did most of the damage at the plate: Roberts went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Showalter went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Becket Moran was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Cissna Park has already played their next match, a 5-1 loss against Milford on the 21st. As for Armstrong, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-6 defeat against Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin on the 23rd.
