Soccer Game Preview: Cabrillo vs. Atascadero

The Cabrillo Conquistadores will take on the Atascadero Greyhounds in a holiday battle at at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Cabrillo fell victim to Cate and their airtight defense on Wednesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rams. While losing is never fun, the Conquistadores can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 651st, while the Rams are ranked 36th).

Meanwhile, Atascadero's game on Tuesday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of Paso Robles by a score of 1-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now lost four in a row.

Atascadero's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Cabrillo, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6-2 record this season.

Cabrillo might still be hurting after the 6-2 defeat they got from Atascadero in their previous meeting last Tuesday. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cabrillo was down 3-0.
