Basketball Preview: East Ascension Spartans vs. Live Oak Eagles
East Ascension has been on the road for two straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Live Oak Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Thursday, East Ascension was beaten by the Yellowjackets 59-26. While losing is never fun, East Ascension can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked seventh).
Meanwhile, Live Oak's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Walker, falling 77-14. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Live Oak in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost eight in a row.
East Ascension's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 16-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.3 points per game. As for Live Oak, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.
East Ascension was able to grind out a solid win over the Eagles in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 42-29. Will East Ascension repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
