Softball Recap: Lyons Takes a Loss

Lyons suffered their closest loss since April 15, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Leyden Eagles by a score of 7-5. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 9-3 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Caylee Wagner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.

At the plate, Ava Jacklin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mia Jovicic, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Lyons' defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Leyden, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lyons will challenge Willowbrook at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Leyden, they are taking a road trip to square off against Fremd at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
