Volleyball Recap: Natrona County Mustangs vs. Green River Wolves
Natrona County came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to the Green River Wolves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.
The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Green River scored at least 17 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-17.
Brooke Russell paced Natrona County's offense, picking up six kills. Russell got some help from Erin Aune and her 12 assists. Jos Berens controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.
Green River found their leader in sophomore Brookelyn Phillips, who had 14 digs and one assist. Phillips is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in each of the last ten games she's played.
Natrona County has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Green River, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-4.
Coming up, Natrona County will venture away from home to face off against Kelly Walsh at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Green River, they will welcome Pinedale at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
