Softball Recap: Puckett Snags 12th Win in Last 13 Games

Puckett had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past the Lake Hornets 10-4 on Thursday. Considering the Wolves have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Lila Murphy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Murphy was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Shivers, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since April 2nd. Another player making a difference was Meredith Shivers, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Puckett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in eight consecutive games.

Puckett has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lake, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-13.

As of now, neither Puckett nor the Hornets have any future games scheduled.
