Butler (Matthews, N.C.) avenged a season-opening loss to Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.) last season by pounding Mallard Creek 27-6 in Friday's season opener for both teams.

The outcome was never in question, as Butler jumped on Mallard Creek early. Michigan-commit Channing Stribling opened up the game by intercepting Mallard Creek's first pass attempt.

The teams traded possessions during the first quarter, with neither team finding the end zone until Ferguson connected with running back Josh Glisson on a 49-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.



Ferguson struck again midway through the second quarter. He hit favorite target LeMay for a 32-yard score to push Butler's lead to 14-0.Marquez North got Mallard Creek on the board in the third quarter. .

Ranked No. 25 in the Xcellent 25 and the No. 1 team in North Carolina, Butler should build off the win. After winning a state title in 2010, it was stunned by Page in the playoffs 40-26 in head coach Brian Hales' first season. It will take on Olympic next week while Mallard Creek plays Sun Valley.
