Softball Recap: Williams Valley Has No Trouble Against Minersville

Williams Valley's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Minersville Battlin' Miners with a sharp 8-1 win. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.

Sage Smeltz made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Kobularik, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Olivia Hand was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Williams Valley's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Minersville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Williams Valley will host Upper Dauphin Area at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Minersville, they are taking a road trip to take on Pottsville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
