Softball Recap: River Takes a Loss

River suffered their closest defeat since March 23, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of the Marietta Tigers by a score of 5-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 back in April.

Ava Wohnhas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kaylee Hagan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Presley Kilburn, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI.

River is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-13. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Marietta, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-6 record.

Looking ahead, River will challenge Barnesville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Marietta, they will host Warren at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
