Softball Recap: Wellsville Makes It 23 in a Row at Home

Wellsville came tearing into Thursday's match with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Avon Braves. The two-run effort marked the Lions' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Makenna Dunbar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wellsville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kennedy Perry, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Lindsay Stuck also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Wellsville pushed their record up to 18-2 with the win, which was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Avon, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-4.

As of now, neither Wellsville nor the Braves have any future games scheduled.
