Basketball Game Preview: DeMatha Stags vs. Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons

DeMatha has gone 9-1 against Our Lady of Good Counsel recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. Both will face off at 7:30 p.m. without much rest having both just played. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

DeMatha is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maryland's top teams: Bishop McNamara, who was ranked 16th at the time (DeMatha was ranked third). DeMatha had just enough and edged Bishop McNamara out 64-61. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Stags have posted since December 8, 2024.

Jacob Wallace had a dynamite game for DeMatha, going 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points in addition to eight assists and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Wallace a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles Thomas, who went 5 for 10 en route to 11 points along with five boards and three blocks.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Our Lady of Good Counsel). Everything went their way against St. Mary's Ryken on Tuesday as Our Lady of Good Counsel made off with an 81-56 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Falcons who have now won three matches in a row.

Our Lady of Good Counsel is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points per game. As for DeMatha, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-5.

DeMatha and Our Lady of Good Counsel were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but DeMatha came up empty-handed after a 64-63 loss.
