Softball Game Preview: Hamilton Titans vs. Illini West Chargers

The Hamilton Titans will head out to square off against the Illini West Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hamilton is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Hamilton fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Rushville-Industry on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rockets by a score of 13-12. Even if the Titans couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Meanwhile, Illini West fell victim to Seymour and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. The defeat continues a trend for the Chargers in their meetings with the Indians: they've now lost three in a row.

McKenzie Yeakey was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Illini West saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kennedy Gunning, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Hamilton's record now sits at 11-9. As for Illini West, their record is now 9-17.

Hamilton skirted past Illini West 6-4 when the teams last played back in April. Do the Titans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
