Softball Recap: La Joya Comes Up Short

La Joya fell victim to Edinburg North and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Edinburg North Cougars, falling 7-0. The Coyotes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Alexia Guajardo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.

La Joya is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8. As for Edinburg North, they pushed their record up to 16-5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Joya and McAllen will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. As for Edinburg North, they will head out to face off against Port Isabel at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Edinburg North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
