Softball Game Preview: Mingo Central Miners vs. Tolsia Rebels

The Mingo Central Miners will challenge the Tolsia Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mingo Central has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mingo Central fell victim to Bluefield and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Beavers, falling 15-0.

Meanwhile, Tolsia won against Grace Christian on Tuesday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Rebels beat Martin County by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 14-3. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kalynn Salmons was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Salmons was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tolsia got a massive performance out of Keira Maynard, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Maynard a new career-high. Madison Meddings was another key player, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one run.

Tolsia's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Mingo Central, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Mingo Central took their victory against Tolsia in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-2 score. Do the Miners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
