Recap: Albany vs. Hamlin

Albany were able to grind out a solid win over Hamlin on Friday, winning 34-27.

It took a quarter to shake off the cobwebs, but after zero first-quarter points, the Albany offense picked up 21 points in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Hamlin couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 21-0 heading into the break. Albany were outperformed in the second half 13-27 but had enough points saved up to walk away with the win.

No one put up better numbers for Albany than junior Ben West, who brought his A game into the match. He passed for 248 yards and 4 touchdowns. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse senior Payne Hebel, who racked up 11 tackles.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Albany and raised their record to 5-5. With their first defeat of the season, Hamlin fell to 9-1.

Both teams will be heading out of the conference in their next games. Albany and Rocksprings go head to head next week in their first playoff contest of the year. Coming off of a win even when the odds were against them, Albany have to be feeling especially confident with the MaxPreps state rankings on their side for this one.
