Recap: Sunnyslope Vikings vs. Skyline Coyotes
The Sunnyslope Vikings waltzed into Friday's game with four straight wins but they left with five. They snuck past Skyline with a 42-38 victory. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
It was another big night for Luke Moga, who rushed for 46 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Moga has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Sunnyslope also got a significant boost from Aleck Vargas, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 152 yards.
When it comes to explaining why Skyline lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jordan Blake. Despite the final result, he rushed for 302 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Alexander Cook was another key contributor, picking up 44 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Sunnyslope's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Skyline, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Sunnyslope will head out on the road to face off against Notre Dame Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Notre Dame Prep is ranked 27th, while Sunnyslope is ranked 43rd). Skyline does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
