Soccer Game Preview: San Antonio Memorial vs. La Vernia

The San Antonio Memorial Minutemen will head out to take on the La Vernia Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

San Antonio Memorial is headed into Friday's following a draw, the team's first since January 3. They and Gonzales finished up their game with a 2-2 draw on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, La Vernia waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Eagles onto the board and left with a 9-0 win. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 382nd, while the Eagles are ranked 795th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

La Vernia's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3-2. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three matchups. With that draw, San Antonio Memorial's record moves to 8-2-2.

San Antonio Memorial suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to La Vernia when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can San Antonio Memorial avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
